The Days of Shamelessness
“Were they ashamed because of the abomination they
have done? They were not ashamed at all; they did
not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall
fall among those who fall; at the time that I
punish them, they shall be cast down,”
says the Lord. Jeremiah 6:15
The words are shocking! And yet they are what they are, as God through his prophet Jeremiah also says in Jeremiah 3:3 about the people of Judah,
“Yet you had a harlot’s forehead; you refused to be ashamed.”
If you will, Judah had become a “Brazen Hussy!” That is what a whore’s forehead refers to – utter brazen shamelessness. Not one sign of blushing, embarrassment or shame upon her countenance. Judah in her spiritual whoredom with idols (false heathen gods) exhibited that her head was as steely and hardened as her heart. Judah in her great sinfulness had lost the ability to be ashamed of her spiritual whoredom. As the Lord says in Jeremiah 6:15, “They were not ashamed at all.” If you will:
“JUDAH HAD SPIRITUALLY AND MORALLY PROSTITUTED HERSELF
FOR SO LONG THAT SHE COULD LOOK GOD, HER CONSCIENCE
AND THE WORLD IN THE FACE WITHOUT ANY SHAME.”
Or again, God says in Jeremiah 6:15, “They didn’t even know how to blush.” You see:
“BLUSHING SHAME IS THE COLOR OF VIRTUE, AND WHEN ALL PRINCIPLES
OF MORALITY HAVE NO MORE EFFECT UPON A NATION, THE
COLOR OF VIRTUE IS NO LONGER VISIBLE UPON
HER COUNTENANCE.”
And again:
“WHEN SIN BECOMES NATIONALLY ROUTINE, IT NO LONGER EVEN
RECEIVES SO MUCH AS A SLIGHT BLUSH-FACED
BACK-PAGE CENSURE.”
When a nation has become unable to blush in shame over sin, there is nothing left to stop it from sinning out of control. It simply becomes business as usual, as shameless corporate fraud becomes a way of life. And politics as usual as the power boys in Washington D.C. shamelessly spend trillions of dollars of the people’s money.
Listen now, nothing can deter the sinner in his sinning like the prospect of being overwhelmed with shame. It is bad enough to be shamed when you look at yourself in the mirror. It something else to have others look upon you with disdain and repulsion. But when shamelessness takes over a nation’s heart and conscience, the entire culture becomes a brazen hussy.
Pain in the body is but a toothache compared to the infamy of the soul. But when shameful infamy has been taken out of sinning, all hindrances and deterrents are gone. The Days of Shamelessness are the days of wholesale license to sin with no stigma attached! Then the licensed, shameless sinners can live the darkest of lives and still pass in society with flying colors.
In short, a shameless society is like a home (zoo) full of bratty kids who are spoiled rotten by their misfit parents. The little scoundrels have never felt the sting of the lash or the sharp rebuke of discipline. They have never heard words from their parents like, “Shame on you!” or “You ought to be ashamed of yourself!” After each shenanigan the parents simply peel off another ten dollar bill and thereby say, “Good work, here’s a bonus.”
Haven’t you ever said to your spouse about somebody else’s kids who are more like a wrecking crew, “How can their parents allow them to get away with such misbehavior? It is shameful!” Yes it is, but not where the moral principles of right and wrong, good and bad no longer apply. When you have such deviants in your home, to prevent catastrophic damage to your house and even to your own body, you need the reflexes of a major league shortstop.
I have more than once been in horrified shock when invited guests take their ill-mannered gang of child-thugs with them. It is like a marrauding army of tots invading your home and they burn and pillage anything and anyone that suits them. Anything goes! Nothing and no one is safe. The Days of Shamelessness! That is exactly what is happening in our immoral modern society. Sin is less and less being shamed!
GLORYING IN THEIR SHAME
Judah had come into “The Days of Shamelessness.” So has America! So has Great Britain! (Examples given later on) So has the whole world! William Bennett, former U.S. Secretary of Education, calls it “The Death of Outrage.” When the face of a nation should be blood red with shame, and yet it is not even a pale pink, it is then that she has become totally and irreversibly shameless in her hard-heartedness of sin. Even as liquid runs off a hard-coated surface, so shame runs off sin-hardened hearts. Oh so awfully true:
“IT IS THE VERY CONTINUANCE IN THE SHAMEFULNESS OF SIN THAT
SLOWLY BUT SURELY CAUSES SHAMELESSNESS.”
It causes something even worse. Shamelessness in sinning has a devilish evolution all of its own. I think it goes something like this:
“WHERE THERE IS NO SHAMEFULLNESS IN SINNING, THERE CAN BE
NO REPENTANCE OF SINS.”
Then:
“WHERE THERE CAN BE NO REPENTANCE OF SIN, THERE THEN COMES
AN IMPLICIT ENDORSEMENT OF SIN.”
Finally, in this evolution of utter shamelessness in sin:
“WHERE THERE IS IMPLICIT ENDORSEMENT OF SIN, THERE WILL COME
THE DEPTH OF SHAMELESSNESS WHEN MEN GLORY IN THEIR SIN.”
Can such a despicable condition in the hearts and minds of men actually happen? That is to say, can there actually be a society where they once embraced “G” rated movies and denounced “X” rated movies, and now they embrace the immorality of “XXX” and denounce the morality of “GGG?” Yes, we are there! After all, it is the the freedom of speech that must be guarded. And those who want to limit or censure it should be ashamed of themselves.
The same thing can be said of office humor today. If you tell a good clean “joke” there now may be a token snicker, but if you tell a really dirty one there is laughter that almost breaks into fiendish applause and celebration. The age of shamelessness when a hot “R” rated joke, which according to the Bible is really “X,” will make you the highest rated office comedian.
The Lord in His Word has a most descriptive phrase for this dangerous and inevitably terminal condition. We read of it in Philippians 3:19,
“…whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and
WHOSE GLORY IS IN THEIR SHAME.”
That is, they literally celebrate and revel in the shame of their vileness. Woe! It reminds us of what Isaiah said when people devolve into “The Days of Shamelessness,” that they then become like the infamous Sodom, as we read similar words to Jeremiah in Isaiah 3:9,
“The expression of their faces (no blush) bears witness against them, and they
display their sin like Sodom; they do not even conceal it.
Woe to them!”
Almost sounds like Hell to me! Sad to say these are the demon-graphics of the end-time landscape of earth. Deep valleys of masses of shameless sinners now dominate the landscape with fewer and fewer people standing on the hills of righteousness.
No red-faced sinners here in the valleys of sin! Their glory is in their shame. Christians glory (boast) in the cross. (Galatians 6:14) The world glories (boasts) in the very sin for which Christ died and suffered Hell on the cross! Shamelessness! And they flaunt it! They glory in it! They boast in it! They celebrate it. They have parades for it. So that more and more the world all over the place looks like spray-painted immorality on the crumbling, graffitied walls of a decaying society. They call it art! Whose glory is in their shame!
In Great Britain, “Christian Concern For Our Nation” (CCFON) www.ccfon.org reports that the UK National Health Service is advising school kids that they have a “right” to an enjoyable sex life and that regular sex can be good for their cardiovascular health. The National Health Service’s leaflet which has been circulated to parents, teachers and youth workers says that experts concentrate too much on the need for safe sex and loving relationships, and not enough on the pleasures that it brings. Alongside the slogan on the guidance leaflet which says, “An Orgasm A Day Keeps The Doctor Away,” there are these words:
“HEALTH PROMOTION EXPERTS ADVOCATE FIVE PORTIONS OF FRUIT
AND VEG A DAY AND 30 MINUTES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY THREE TIMES
A WEEK. WHAT ABOUT SEX OR MASTURBATION TWICE A WEEK?”
Whose glory is in their shame! Making pre-adolescent and adolescent sexual arousal and fornication a recipe for cardiovascular health and pleasure! Contradistinctively, if they do not engage in masturbation at least twice a week, they increase the possibility of heart and blood vessel disease. Giving credence to the devil’s cause, and attaching virtue to sin, with some innocent pleasure along the way! Teaching youngsters to glory in the shamefulness of sin! Hear me:
“TO EXCUSE SIN IS ONE THING, AND TO DEFEND IT IS QUITE ANOTHER.
BUT TO LAUD SIN BY PORTRAYING EVIL AS BEING GOOD FOR
YOU HAS LED US HEADLONG INTO LAST DAYS OF HUMAN
HISTORY – THE DAYS OF SHAMELESSNESS.”
As if this isn’t shameful enough, the church is many instances today helping the world escape the shame of sin and the sting of conscience. The bishops of the Episcopalian General Council recently voted by 104 to 30 to “collect and develop theological resources and liturgies” for blessing same-sex relationships to be considered at the next convention in 2012. Hours later they voted to allow the consecration of gay bishops. That motion passed by 99 to 45 among the bishops and by 72% to 28% among church deputies made up of clergy and laity. These decisions on gay consecrations and same-sex blessings end the uneasy agreement after the consecration of the openly gay Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003. (CCFON)
Now we have a president who declares an entire week set aside in honor of of gays, transsexuals etc. to laud them for their great contributions to society. Glorying in their shame! When I think of the Obamanation now taking place in America, and the shameful regime that has taken over Washington and the nation, I feel like the Indians did when it dawned on them that the rifle-toting palefaces were not just visiting North America for a few weeks of R@R. The American Indian and wild-horse frontier was about to disappear forever, even as the American Christian and Democratic Republic as we once knew it is on the verge of disappearing forever.
SHAMING THE VIRTUOUS
However, what inevitably happens when the shame of sin and sinners disappears, the righteous are always shamed by shameless degenerates. If you will:
“WHEN THE SHAMEFULNESS OF SIN IS REMOVED, PEOPLE DEVOLVE
INTO BEING ASHAMED OF NOTHING AND NO ONE EXCEPT
OF VIRTUE AND THE VIRTUOUS.”
This is very easy to understand. No shameless profligate feels uncomfortable when looking at his fellow moral-bankrupts in the face. There is after all camaraderie amongst crooks, as the old saying goes. Birds of a feather flock together! Hey, no drunk is ashamed to look at another drunk eye to eye. Misery loves company, and so does immorality. This is exactly what the Apostle Paul is getting at in Romans 1:32,
“…they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those
who practice them.”
In Romans 1:28 this is what is called “The Reprobate Mind.” If you will, shamelessness in sin and glorying with like-minded degenerates are “The Days of the Reprobates.” It is the same thing as “The Days of Shamelessness.” It is the point of no return! It is the end of the line! It is the bottom of the barrel. It is the last straw. Reprobates break all records for grossness and shamelessness, and are as the condemned convict who brags about his heinousness to the very last moment before his execution.
Only the carnal feel at home while watching fornicating and adulterating TV Soap Operas day in and day out. The drunks, fornicators and adulterers in the daytime soaps and now nighttime reruns are the reprobate’s heroes and heroines. They are then in their home element, even as nudists have their own bare beaches. Not only that, but they confirm each other in their shameless immodesty. In the company of the indecent, they lose all apprehension of decency. When sin becomes fashionable, how well we know that it is so easy to follow fashion. “Reprobate Soaps” and “Reprobate Beaches.”
Even as the common trend today is for women to shamelessly show their cleavage, for it is the fashionable in-thing among the fleshly. There is very little conscience if any left in the modern common consensus. of darkness. “The Days of the Reprobates – “The Days of the Shameless.” Now we have enough shameless cleavage to rival the Grand Canyon because everybody is doing it, even in the church. Even though the Bible commands us in Jude 1:23,
“…hating the garment polluted by flesh.”
The KJV puts it this way,
“…hating even the garment spotted by flesh.”
I think we should note that this is not merely mild disapproval. We are not dealing simply with impropriety here. What we are dealing with here is something that is so absolutely disgusting and shameful, that we are told to hate it! Woe! For the God of love to tell us to hate sexy clothes ought to tell us how much He is turned off not only, but repulsed by them. Church parents better hear this who are not only sanctioning but encouraging their daughters to reveal as much skin as they can without being arrested. God loathes what you are doing!
But when everyone is doing it, the face of evil can hide its ugliness and be unashamed in the midst of corrupt commonality. In fact, it is the herd mentality that makes sinners not only shameless, but bold and daring in their rottenness. Gay-pride parades and pro-choice rallies! Let’s face it, numbers and companionship not only give false credit to evil, but sham endorsement to the shameless evil-doers. That is exactly why the Lord commands us to separate ourselves from and isolate those brothers in the church who are walking in willful disobedience. Or as we read in II Thessalonians 3:14,
“And if anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special
note of that man and do not associate with him, so that
he may be put to shame.”
But let a person come along who is the face of righteousness, suddenly the grotesque face of evil is then revealed with all of its pus-oozing acne. Wickedness and immorality suddenly are exposed in the light of morality’s bright countenance, and the degenerates hate the blinding brilliance of the moral-minority. As Jesus said in John 3:19-20,
“And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men
loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil.”
“For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the
light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
This is exactly why the secular press and left-wing politicians are reacting so viciously against ex-Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska and her family. Some people are mystified as to why she has become the brunt of the liberal-attack dogs. Frankly there is no mystery to it whatsoever. In her pro-life, pro-Biblical marriage and family convictions, she shames the moral relativists and the murderous abortionists as well as the gay-rights activists. The shameless sinners do not like being blindingly shamed by the children of light. They hate them!
So too the likes of David Letterman with the rest of his heathen cronies and vile comics have done their worst to shame her every night to this very day. If you look closely for only a moment or two at “The Late Show With David Letterman,” you will see a snakelike black form coiled next to his desk, laughing shamelessly and scornfully at all that is moral and decent.
This is also exactly where the “Hate-Crime Legislation” is coming from in the U.S. Congress, for the shameless sin-advocates want those who shame sin and sinners to be viewed as the really shameful ones. What they want is to live in a country that must by law be accepting of sin and endorse sinners. No shame – greatest gain! So put those right-wing and straight-tongue preachers behind bars where they belong. That is why the godless in the “Liberal Washington Think Tank” with their amoral pro-abortion, pro-gay politics are working into the wee hours of the morning to figure out ways to silence the voices of moral Americans, and especially the conscience of moral America – the “Thus Sayeth The Lord Pulpits.” Why? Simple:
“THE BAD PEOPLE CAN NO LONGER FEEL SHAMELESS ABOUT THEMSELVES
WHEN THE GOOD PEOPLE COME ALONG AND EXPOSE
HOW SHAMEFULL THEY REALLY ARE.”
THE SHAMELESS FOREVER SHAMED
It was true in “The Days of Noah.” Those were “The Original Days of Shamelessness.” The imagination of their minds was evil continually. And we better know that their vile deeds were as plentiful as their vile thoughts. Sin had become style, filth had become fashion, and the vile had become vogue. All shame about sin was gone. As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when Christ returns. We are now there, as we are sloshing around in the immoral puke of shamelessness. Look up for your redemption draweth nigh.
Those who mocked and shamed Noah for calling them away from their sin to righteousness and for building an ark hundreds of miles from water drowned in their shame. The strongest swimmers flailed around the longest, then could not find shallow water and perished with all the rest as they swallowed their shamelessness with flood waters. The shameless sinners are always shamed in the end.
It was true in “The Days of Sodom and Gomorrah.” Those who gloried in their shameless, all-consuming and fiery lusts of their homosexual perversion were shamefully burned with holy fire and then their ashes buried under brimstone. Listen:
“BECAUSE THEY WERE SHAMELESS IN THEIR SIN, GOD POURED OUT
UPON THEM A SUITABLE AND JUST PUNISHMENT SO THAT THEY
WOULD FINALLY DROWN AND BURN IN SHAME.”
It is universally true today. Man again is not only giving evil a good coat of paint, but He is flaunting it as if in 14 carat gold. However as always, already the paint is peeling and the gold is fading into yellowish brown, for underneath it all their shameless, sinful glory is rotting. And God in Jeremiah 6:15 assures those who glory in their shame that in the end:
“Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish
them they shall be cast down.”
And we remember Jesus words in Luke 17:37,
“Where the body is, there also will the vultures be gathered.”
Count on it:
“THOSE WHO GLORY IN THEIR SHAME WILL IN THE END BE
SHAMEFULLY SHAMED BY GOD IN THEIR VAIN GLORY
BY TURNING THEM INTO BUZZARD BAIT.”
In the meantime, we will continue to occupy till He comes. That does not mean to take up space until the Lord returns. That means to unashamedly and unafraid go into the occupied territory of the enemy and take it back for Christ. I know at times it feels like we are wrestling an alligator, but greater is He that is in us than he that is in the hellish and demon infested swamps of the world system. Ours must be the spirit of Saint Paul in Romans 1:16,
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for
salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first
and also to the Greek.”
Only those who shamefully confess their sins to God can glory in Divine forgiveness. Only those who shamefully confess their guilt to Jesus can rejoice and glory in His righteousness imputed to them. Only those who cry the shame-filled tears of contriteness can glory in the Cross of Christ. And only those Christ Jesus is not ashamed to call His brothers, and God is not ashamed to be called their God.
