Politico-Religio Rhetoric
“PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH WILL SHOW LITTLE RESPONSIBILITY
TOWARD THAT FOR WHICH THE PASTOR
SHOWS INDIFFERENCE“
Well folks, here we go again, or is it yet? The run for the White House is in full gear, and the sprint to the front door is not far away. November 4 will open that door for the next President of the United States of America. More is at stake than we can ever imagine. Totally conflicting world and life views are running neck and neck as I write this piece. The differences between the major political parties and their nominees are stark.
Quite contrary to Senator John Edwards, there are two Americas. Just exactly like there are two worlds. America has not escaped that tension. In fact, it is intensifying daily. When Jesus came into the world, he flat out warned,
“Do you think for a moment that I came to give you peace?
Nay, rather a sword! I will divide a household – father
against son, mother against daughter, children
against parents.” (Matthew 10:34-35)
Jesus came as a sword to divide!
And so we have two Americas even as we have two worlds. Moral permissiveness versus moral absolutism! Pro-abortion versus pro-life! Pro-homosexual marriage versus pro-heterosexual marriage! Separation of church and state versus God the Head of every state! Barack Obama says that stating when human life begins is above his pay grade, while John McCain states unequivocally that human life begins at conception. They can agree on very little, and the United States Congress can accomplish even less. They can’t even unite as “Patriots” on carrying out “Acts” to protect the nation against fiendish and relentless terrorists.
Stalemate on the Hill! Gridlocked government! Emotions are hot, and the soul of a nation is in turmoil as it faces eminent economic collapse. The blame game is in high gear. Political dejavu! It is the season that can accurately be described by what John Keats calls “A Thousand Bitters.” More like a million!
A Scottish preacher ministering to a tiny congregation in a remote village once said, “One soul is a big enough parish for any man!” If that be true, and in many ways it is, how much truer is the fact that the presidency of a nation like America is ridiculously far too oversized and overwhelming for any man or woman. Never were the words of the prophet Zachariah more applicable when he writes in Zachariah 4:6,
“…This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by
might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the
Lord of hosts.”
So it must be the word of the Lord to John McCain and Barack Obama. If Zerubbabel was to lead the people in the rebuilding of Jerusalem from its physical ruins, so the next President of the United States must lead the people in the rebuilding of America from its spiritual and moral ruins. The pulsating and primary issue is not who knows those words enough to be able to quote them, but who really believes those words enough to be able to live them.

THE GOD OF OUR FATHERS
First, 9/11’s seventh anniversary recently brought back the vivid memories of the carnage of terrorism demonically inflicted from the skies upon the innocent in New York City, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, PA. It savagely introduced America to the vicious world of fanatical Islam that would metastasize on a global basis. Into America’s decades of the accumulation of anti-God judicial decisions came the painful reminder that the very God she had been so fiercely warring against she now needed desperately again.
However, that once again deeply-realized need of God didn’t last very long! A little over half a year later the Ninth U.S. Federal Appeals Court on June 26, 2002 in a 2-1 decision ruled that the phrase “One Nation Under God” in the pledge of allegiance to the American flag amounts to a government endorsement of religion in violation of the separation of church and state. More than that, leading schoolchildren in a pledge that says the United States is one nation under God is as objectionable as making them say “One Nation Under Jesus,” or, “One Nation Under Vishnu,” or “One Nation Under Zeus,” or “One Nation Under No God.” Why? Because none of these professions is neutral with respect to religion!
Neutrality! That is now America’s posture, and in her bogus neutrality she is being pushed around by anti-God forces that are shoving her off the cliff of spiritual, moral and national ruin. Why bogus? Because Jesus said in Matthew 12:30,
“He who is not with Me is against Me….”
Count on it! For when it comes to being forced to make a choice, the so-called neutral person will not stand with Jesus but against Him! There is no neutrality! It is a myth! That is the way it works. If we are not for Jesus in life, when faced with a life or death choice, we will turn against Him.
From her very inception, America was anything but neutral. America was a nation both for the Bible’s God and that God’s Bible. In fact:
“AMERICA NOT ONLY CARRIED HER GOD’S BIBLE, BUT HER
BIBLE’S GOD CARRIED AMERICA.”
And never forget it! Truly in God she trusted! Truly to God she was committed. America was founded and settled by people who believed that life was worth living and worth living well. She was not founded by mavericks, but by devoted people who held themselves responsible to God, for they had been purchased by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. (Bill Maher and all of your atheistic buddies, eat your heart out!)
Of course, you will never hear the truth on the major network newscasts or from liberal politicians about the spiritual and God-centered foundations of America. What you get instead is a “politically correct” history of America that is full of distortions and lies. And that day after day after day!
America’s times of renewed pledges of commitment to God and country most often have come out of terribly war-torn, bloodied and crisis times in history. They say that there are no atheists in fox holes. In this age of maniacal terrorism, we now all live in fox holes as a way of life. And in such times historically America’s presidents and generals turned to the God of their fathers as their sure and only hope and help.
Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower prayed with the American troops on June 6, 1944 as they faced their first assault on Nazism in the European theater of war. Commander Eisenhower challenged his troops with these words:
“I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN YOUR COURAGE, DEVOTION TO DUTY
AND SKILL IN BATTLE. WE WILL ACCEPT NOTHING LESS THAN
FULL VICTORY! GOOD LUCK! AND LET US BESEECH THE
BLESSINGS OF ALMIGHTY GOD UPON THIS
GREAT AND NOBLE UNDERTAKING.”
Likewise, it was President Franklin Roosevelt who led his nation unashamedly in that famous D-Day prayer with these words:
“HELP US, ALMIGHTY GOD, TO REDEDICATE OURSELVES IN
RENEWED FAITH IN THEE IN THIS HOUR OF
GREAT SACRIFICE…
AND, O LORD, GIVE US FAITH. GIVE US FAITH IN THEE, FAITH
IN OUR SONS, FAITH IN EACH OTHER, FAITH IN OUR UNITED
CRUSADE…WITH THY BLESSING WE SHALL PREVAIL
OVER THE UNHOLY FORCES OF THE
ENEMY…THY WILL BE DONE,
ALMIGHTY GOD. AMEN.”
President Roosevelt and General Eisenhower knew well what a young soldier named David knew. Remember his gutsy faith proclamation to the towering and taunting giant Goliath in I Samuel 17:45-46,
“…You come to me with sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I
come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the
God of the armies of Israel…This day the Lord will
deliver you up into My hands….”
In modern terms, the battle is the Lord’s and the Lord’s battle is not by sword, not by spear, not by javelin, not by tanks, not by jets, not by germ warfare, not by chemical warfare, not by nuclear warfare. It is ultimately the Lord’s battle, and those who have the Lord on their side win, and those who don’t lose. All odds are off, for our God is a no-odds God.
Historically for America’s leaders and citizens, God was as Americana as America herself. I am reminded of the words of Hebrews 11:16,
“…Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God….”
I recall well as a lad when America was not ashamed in the least to call God her God and I know that God was not ashamed to call America His daughter. When the U.S. Congress introduced in 1954 “One Nation Under God” to America’s Pledge of Allegiance when I was 14 years old, America was not only proudly confessing devotion to her historic flag, but proudly confessing devotion to her God as well. That deep God-awareness was the rule and not the exception while today it is becoming more and more the exception and not the rule.
Not so many years ago, in the Saturday Review there was a picture of a woman relaxing on a couch, feet up, and a box of chocolates at her elbow with the caption underneath, “I love to curl up with a good book.” The book in her hand was the Holy Bible which was as Americana as the chocolates she was feasting on.
Today the book in her hand would be Charles Darwin’s On The Origin Of The Species. Remember the days when neither the chocolates nor the Bible got stuck in America’s throat? But today if she reads the Bible, let alone tries to digest it, she gets a stomachache. Modern America is now suffering both from out-of-control spiritual dyspepsia and spiritual dementia.

POLITICO-RELIGIO FORM – NOT SUBSTANCE
Second, because of America’s thoroughly Christian roots, for close to 200 years, America’s religious confession and conversation was more substance than form. Far more realism than rhetoric. Far more God than religion. Far more heart than mouth!
Now in her heart rending post-Christian condition, her God-talk is more form than substance. As a result of all of this, unregenerate politicians must walk a tightrope when seeking to get elected to the White House and the Congress. In order to win presidential and congressional elections, the votes of the pesky remaining fundamentalists and conservative right wingers must be carefully courted, while at the same time the anti-God majority populous must be wooed.
If the heathen politician is to be successful in such an environment, the show of religion must be carefully streamlined and theatrically mastered, yet so that the real-life substance of religion must be minimized. Learn the religious jargon and pay lip service to a higher power, even though there is no inner awe of or commitment to God whatsoever. I call it:
“POLITICO-RELIGIO RHETORIC”
The Bible describes it best in II Timothy 3:5,
“Holding to a form of godliness, although they have
denied its power; and avoid such men as these.”
We are commanded here to avoid such politico-religio rhetoricians, all religious show and no substance politicians. Above all, I might add, avoid them in the voting booth!
It all takes practice for the politico-religio politician, and the very careful walking on the political balancing beam between theism on the one side and agnosticism and atheism on the other; between moral relativism and moral absolutism; between creationism and evolutionism; between the “Bible Belt” and Hollywood. If you will, between Heaven and Hell! A most difficult balancing act indeed! Why? Because in this split nation of two Americas, for the thoroughbred politician:
“THE SHOW OF RELIGION IS HELPFUL WHILE THE SUBSTANCE OF
RELIGION IS HURTFUL”
All of this is by no means easy to pull off. What the politico-religio politician attempts to do is to talk and walk as religious and moral for his advantage, but yet he must inwardly shake off the narrowly defined doctrines and moral absolutes of religion. Self-interest will always sacrifice veracity! He must sound pious and yet be prudent at the same time. If you will:
“HE MUST SOUND TRUE TO THE ONE SIDE, AND AT THE SAME
TIME NOT SOUND FALSE TO THE OTHER SIDE.”
Or again:
“APPEARING TO BE WHO HE IS NOT, WHILE ALL THE WHILE
REMAINING TRUE TO WHO HE REALLY IS.”
It is abundantly clear what is going on in America both ecclesiastically and politically. And it should also be obvious how the church and state are using the same devious tactics to attract the masses. On the one hand:
“THE MODERN CHURCH IS DEVELOPING A CULTURAL RELIGION IN
WHICH IT CONSISTENTLY MISQUOTES GOD TO
SUIT THE CULTURE.”
On the other hand:
“MODERN POLITICS IS ALSO DEVELOPING A CULTURAL RELIGION
IN WHICH IT CONSISTENTLY MISQUOTES GOD TO SUIT
THE VOTERS.”
In terms of the church, that requires a separate study. In fact, it requires a book, if not several volumes. In terms of politico-religio rhetoric, this will become evident as we go along.
Someone reading this might ask, “But isn’t this all flat out all about lying?” Yes indeed, but that is the whole point! Frankly, any healthy and honest mind can no more believe a lie than healthy and honest taste buds can believe a bitter thing to be sweet. Therefore, for a liar and lie to be believed, he and it must be clothed in the appearance of truth. That is why Satan comes to us as an angel of light in order to deceive God’s chosen ones. (II Corinthians 11:14)
If anyone gets fooled by Satan’s masquerade, he will little by little sink into an infatuation and delusion, even as Adam and Eve did. Then nonsense can pass for common sense, and secularism can pass for religion. You tricky Devil you!
Also, it helps greatly if today’s thoroughbred politico-religio politician finds and becomes part of a denomination that has taken down doctrinal and moral fences, which then gives his politico-religio mind and conscience room to roam. That way he or she completes the cloak of religion, while the undiscerning are unable to tell what is underneath.
Today such a denomination or independent fellowship is easy to find, for we now have as many double-talking preachers as we do double-talking politicians. Seeker friendly ecclessiastico-religio preachers and voter friendly politico-religio politicians! What a dream team! More like a nightmare!

POLITICO-RELIGIO RHETORIC – HOW IT WORKS
“GOD MUST BE PLACED BEFORE ALL, BECAUSE HE DESERVES IT
ABOVE ALL.”
“WE LOVE HIM THE MOST WHO WE ALWAYS PUT FIRST“
Third, allow me to give you some concrete examples as to how this politico-religio rhetoric works. It has become a politico-religio art form.
To begin with always end your campaign speeches but never begin them with God. Cardinal rule #1! If you use the time-worn cliché “God Bless America” at the end, at least that way you can accelerate the heart rate of the “Faith Crowd” that is always there to be reckoned with. But never put God in the introduction or body of the speech, for that will immediately turn off the “Unfaith Crowd.”
In other words, always make God at the most a footnote, but never make God the keynote. Why? For to begin the speech with God is to condition the entire speech with a God awareness! But to end the speech with God conditions nothing. It is merely an expected and accepted exit strategy in American politics. It is like the “Amen” at the end of a prayer. For most people, that is received as the indication that the prayer is over. This is the difference between the law of first mention and the law of last mention. Make sure that God is always last and never first!
Again I say, this is the politico-religio rhetoricians strategy:
“AT MOST MAKE GOD A FOOTNOTE AND NEVER THE KEYNOTE.
FOR IN THAT WAY YOU CAN STRIKE THE RIGHT NOTE
FOR ALL CONCERNED.”
Politico-religio rhetoric at its finest! It all becomes so subtle that the average religious minds cannot discern what is happening. But what is going on is really the politicizing of God, not for faith purposes but for voting purposes. In point of fact:
“HE WHO USES GOD AS A QUICK RELIGIOUS WAY OUT HAS NEVER
SPIRITUALLY LET GOD IN.“
“HE WHO USES GOD AS A QUICK, POLITICALLY ADVANTAGEOUS
WRAP UP HAS NEVER BEEN ALL WRAPPED UP IN GOD.“
Second, never say more or less than “God Bless America” or “God Protect Our Troops” at the end of the speech. Enough is enough, and yet not more than enough. What would happen if the presidential campaigner would begin his speech with something so volatile but true as “Let Me Begin With The Fact That God Began America” or “God Birthed America” or “Our Nation Was Founded By And On God?” Whoops! Now we have gone from God being the Patron of America to God being the Parent of America. Never speak of God as America’s Father! That almost sounds like America and Americans are God’s children, and that we belong to Him, and even owe Him our obedience. Horrors!
Godfather would be just fine! You see, it is safe if the tagged-on-at-the-end godfather wants to bless and protect America. Hey, He can make other nations offers they can’t refuse. We can all use a godfather who defends us. Every little bit helps. But this fathering role of God takes us to a whole new level. More than just defending us, it defines us. We will accept a Divine ally but not a Divine definition.
Let me repeat:
“ALWAYS ALLOW GOD TO BE THE PATRON OF AMERICA, BUT NEVER
ALLOW HIM TO BE THE PATRIARCH OF AMERICA.”
If you will:
“ALWAYS ALLOW GOD TO DEFEND AMERICA, BUT NEVER ALLOW
GOD TO DEFINE AMERICA.”
Politico-religio rhetoric at its best! I guess we could state it as follows:
“POLITICO-RELIGIO RHETORIC WILL ALLOW US TO BELIEVE
CERTAIN VERY LIMITED AND ALWAYS ADVANTAGEOUS
THINGS ABOUT GOD.”
However:
“POLITICO-RELIGIO RHETORIC WILL NOT ALLOW US TO BELIEVE IN
A GOD WHO MAKES US BELIEVE IN SO MANY
DISADVANTAGEOUS THINGS ABOUT
OURSELVES.”
Third, this learned politico-religio rhetoric enables the thoroughbred politician to maintain a very delicate balancing act between keeping motherhood in the spiritual realm (you know, loving moms, Chevrolet, apple pie and God), while keeping maternity in the strictly biological realm. “I had a praying mother,” says the stumping politico-religio politician, “but I also believe that Roe V Wade alone can protect women’s rights.” Heads up – it is never mother’s rights or baby’s rights, but always women’s rights!
The politico-religio politician might even thank God for a praying mother, but will not allow the pregnant woman to be called a mother, for that would be to admit that she is carrying a human baby girl or boy and not just a biological blob. Always confine pregnancy to womanhood and never let it slip into motherhood, for in that way women won’t lose their abortion lib!
Politico-religio rhetoric at its slickest! The grass-roots, blue-collar citizen is mesmerized by this all-show and no-substance trickery and ambiguity, and fails to detect the lie that he or she is being told, namely that:
“WHILE A WOMAN ONLY BECOMES A MOTHER AFTER DELIVERY, IN
PREGNANCY SHE IS NOT A MOTHER BUT ONLY A WOMAN
AND THE BABY ONLY A BLOB.”
What we state now is much more than just an interesting or a clever observation:
“FOR THE POLITICO-RELIGIO POLITICIAN, GOD BEGINS AT THE
END OF SPEECHES, AND HUMANS BEGIN AT THE END
OF PREGNANCY.”
For the religio-politico politician, everything sacred is short lived, for they all begin at the end. In that way, they are over before they get started. However, everything secular is long lived for they begin at the beginning and live all the way through. Only allow God to be Omega but never Alpha. Only allow human life to end pregnancy but never begin it.
Beginnings raise the curtain on the stage of life, while endings close the curtain on the stage of life. Those who are the stars in films always get their credits at the beginning, and those that are only fill-ins and add-ons get their credits at the end of the film. Never allow God to be the Headliner, but only an add-on. Never allow babies to be the headliners of pregnancies, but only add-ons at the end of the pregnant woman’s drama.
By the way, while we are on the subject, what has happened in America as a result of Roe V Wade is that the impregnated woman and the impregnating man (not yet mother or father) do not bond properly as parents with the child in the womb. After all, how can you parentally and deeply bond with a mere embryo, a fetus, a disposable blob, a POC – product of conception? And how can you bond with the child when you are not yet a parent.
Hear me, this is exactly why there is so much child abuse today, for those who do not recognize themselves as responsible fathers and mothers of precious tiny human beings before birth, many times they never make it into loving and responsible parenthood after birth. These politico-religio politicians therefore are some of the unborn and born baby’s worst enemies.
In summary:
“THE POLITICO-RELIGIO POLITICIAN WILL UPLIFT MOTHERHOOD
AS SPIRITUAL, BUT WILL DOWNPLAY MATERNITY
AS ONLY NATURAL.”
If you will:
“THE POLITICO-RELIGIO POLITICIAN WILL PRESENT MOTHERHOOD
AS A SPIRITUAL FACT, BUT WILL PRESENT MATERNITY
AS ONLY A BIOLOGICAL FACT.”
Or again:
“THE POLITICO-RELIGIO POLITICIAN WILL STATE THAT PREGNANCY
BEGINS AT THE POINT OF CONCEPTION, BUT THAT MOTHERHOOD
BEGINS AT THE POINT OF BIRTH.”
In stark contrast the Christian politician believes and states:
“MOTHERHOOD BEGINS AT CONCEPTION, AND BOTH PREGNANCY
AND MATERNITY ARE MOTHERHOOD.”
If you will, the Christian politician believes and states:
“HUMAN BEINGS, FATHERHOOD AND MOTHERHOOD BEGIN AT
CONCEPTION, AND PREGNANCY, FATHERHOOD AND
MOTHERHOOD ARE SPIRITUAL STATES OF BEING AND
NOT JUST BIOLOGICAL STAGES.”
Fourth, as I have already noted, it has often struck me how politico-religio rhetoricians will more often than not honor their parents, and even thank God for them. That passes muster for both Americas, faith and unfaith. Innocent stuff! Sentimental stuff! Warm stuff! Good stuff! Safe stuff! Smart strategy! In fact, if they are asked about what is their concept of marriage and family, they will go so far as to state that for them, not for all but for them, a marriage is the union of man and woman, and a family is father, mother and child or children. They have us coming in their direction now.
BUT! BUT! BUT! Here it comes! We should not and must not discriminate against or judge those who are so inclined to choose alternative lifestyles. This means that they recognize for others the right and legitimacy of homosexual and lesbian marriages and families, known today mind you as “Same Sex Marriages.”
Same Sex Marriage! My, my, there is a real lulu for you! We are living in the nuttiest age in all of human history. Same sex marriage is of course the biggest oxymoron of all time. It is a standing contradiction! It is a grievous violation of the entirety of God’s created order. Therefore in a same sex marriage, which in essence does not and cannot exist, one of them is a Resident Alien. Whoops! Another oxymoron! It just gets more absurd as you go along.
But they will take homosexuality even further in their politico-religio rhetoric. Today I hear preachers and politicians who stand up and speak for homosexuality as a Divinely sanctioned and a Divinely blessed lifestyle. Here comes the politico-religio shuffle and jive. If you can believe it, a lifestyle that is treasured, defended, and undergirded by the love of God. They almost make it sound as if the homosexual lifestyle is anointed of God as a most beneficial and enriching part of society.
When in fact God does not call homosexuality anointed, but calls it an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22) That means it is an awful way to live. That means it is a hellish way to live. That means it is a detestable way of life. Nothing can describe how bad it is. It shouldn’t even be dignified by the word life. It is really life without living.
And if homosexuality according to God is an abomination, then same sex marriage is a double abomination. Politico-religio politicians call it a legitimate alternative blessing. Of course, in the name of religion and of God they are always calling evil good! Woe to them! (Isaiah 5:20) They are the same ones who would call a porn star an adult entertainer. In short:
“BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THESE POLITICO-RELIGIO POLITICIANS ARE
MASTERS AT CLOTHING A DEVILISH QUALITY WITH
A DIVINE ATTRIBUTE.”
But they and we must give close heed to the words of Proverbs 24:24,
“He who says to the wicked, ‘You are righteous,’ peoples will
curse him, nations will abhor him.”
The Bible from the very beginning defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, a husband and a wife. We read in Genesis 2:24,
“For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother,
and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall
become one flesh.”
The Bible from the very beginning defines family as a father, mother, and children. We read about God commanding Adam and Eve in Genesis 4:1,
“Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she
conceived and gave birth to Cain….”
From the very beginning of time God defined marriage as heterosexual and family as children with their father and mother. And from the very beginning of America the Biblical definitions of marriage and family were exclusively embraced and practiced.
Today, marriage and family are being redefined and corrupted. All of it spells chaos. Today a child can have multiple parents. We have come to the age in which in a family of six, there can be one child and five parents. The sperm donor! The egg donor! The surrogate mother! The two adoptive lesbian whatever you call them! Kids no longer are able to be told that they have their mother’s eyes or their father’s nose. Chaos is filling this society just as it filled the life of the two sons who turned on their lesbian mother because they needed the love and example that only a father could give them.
It is in our created genetics. We come into this world desperately needing the unique, incomparable and irreplaceable love of both a father and a mother. All of this is completely backed up by God Who has never changed His marriage and family designs, and never will.
Politico-religio politicians at their worst! You see, don’t you, that it is exactly these dissimulating modern ecclesio-religio preachers and politico-religio politicians who are helping to create a culture in which America’s children are being taught:
“MANNERS BUT NO MORALS, DANCING LESSONS BUT NO BIBLE
LESSONS, AND DRESS STYLE BUT NOT THE
RIGHT LIFE-STYLE.”
By their promoting the distortion and destruction of Biblical marriage and family, they are rotting the very foundations of society on which all true virtue is to be learned, practiced and strengthened.
Fifth, now that we are getting the hang of it, i.e. how Politico-Religio Rhetoric works, we can begin to see through much if not all of it. So here is one more for your consideration briefly. We have been touching upon the sacredness of human life and of marriage. The politico-religio rhetorician would agree that these things are sacred, to a point. But what he then goes on to do is to take those thoroughly spiritual issues and turn them into political issues. That way he can make them serve his agenda, but with the veneer of sanctity.
Why do they politicize the spiritual? Because it can produce votes! They decide that the moment they take over an issue, it becomes political. However, in fact God has already spoken on these issues in His Word. When God has already spoken on an issue, it is not political, it is spiritual. No political party on the face of the earth can change this. All of the yelling of the politicians will not change it one iota.

DISCERNING THE TRUE FROM THE FAKE
Never has there been a more critical presidential election in American history. We must help our parishioners as God’s children and responsible citizens to be able to distinguish between pious frauds and the true leaders of God by the principles laid out in the aforesaid. We must help them see through the politico-religio rhetoric that is so rampant and so captivatingly deceptive to grass root minds.
I have often said to my congregations that while we cannot command them who to vote for, we must command them what to vote for. And it is our God-given task as pastors to help our people distinguish between form and substance, between the counterfeit and the authentic, and between religiously-painted untruth and God’s honest truth. It is not easy for many, and they desperately need pastoral guidance.
Finally, there will even be those Christians who will vote their billfolds no matter who is running for the presidency. I have seen it again and again, and it is bound to happen. We are to tell our people that they are first required to vote for righteousness, and if they do, God will supply their needs. That is exactly what Matthew 6:33 (KJV) commands us:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His
righteousness; and all these things
shall be added (provided)
unto you.”
And we must help them to feel the depth of two of the greatest lessons of history:
“THERE IS NO DEVIL LIKE A FALSE FRIEND OF GOD IN POWER.”
Likewise:
“THERE IS NO ANGEL LIKE A TRUE FRIEND OF GOD IN POWER.” Amen!
