Lie Number 1. We All Should Have Fewer Children In Order To Combat Today’s Deadly Overpopulation
Perhaps one, but for certain no more than two! So we are warned by the “0 Population Growth” (ZPG) gurus. Because earth now has over 6,000,000,000 people and counting, we are warned that there will be starvation on a massive scale. Biologist Paul Ehrlich was the one who really got the ZPG ball rolling with his book The Population Bomb (1968) There is no doubt that it has taken hold of the frightened minds of men, as the United States and other industrial nations have a birth rate that is now below the replacement level (fewer births than deaths). To prevent the living from dying, we now prevent millions from coming to life. The ZPG theory has also been used to support abortion, euthanasia, infanticide etc., and China’s one child per family policy.
First, we should know some basic mathematics. Given the fact that 2/3rds of the earth’s surface is covered by water, and that some of it is mountains and deserts, there are yet 52 ½ million square miles of land mass on earth (minus Antarctica). Fifty two million square miles! It recalls to my mind the pictures of endless miles and miles of waving grain as we traveled this great country in our evangelistic crusades.
Now ask yourself this question, “If all of the people in the world were brought together into one place, how big would that place have to be? As large as the United States? As large as the state of California? As large as the state of Texas? If we allow an average of 2.6 square feet for every person on earth, babies and adults, all 6 billion people could stand side by side in an area smaller than the city of Jacksonville, FL which has 841 square miles. I realize that people could not live that way, but it does give us a sharp sense of the immensity of God’s creation in the midst of man’s mind-dulling theories.
Secondly, and far more importantly, God said to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:28, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it.” Then He said to them in Genesis 1:29, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.” Then of course later He said in Genesis 1:31 that it was all very good. Well now, God, being as smart and all knowing as He is, would have never said that combination of things unless He knew that His created provisions for a multiplying human race down through the ages were more than adequate. What God says and what the secular humanists are saying are multiplied worlds apart. So we choose to agree with Romans 3:4, “…let God be found true, though every man be found a liar.”
God commanded us to multiply. It is in the imperative! He didn’t even say that we should add to the human race, but rather to multiply it. No simple addition here! Multiplication! Nor did He say, “Multiply, but be careful about overpopulation, for we might all run out of food, water and air.” Nor did He say, “Multiply, but stagnate and even subtract (abortion and euthanasia) when you see fit.” Of course, we must be good stewards of His creation, and stop polluting the air, poisoning the water, and fouling the ground. But let your minds be set free of the lies of Satan and Planned Parenthood (90% of whose donated funds always go to support abortions).
Prayerfully plan your families with God and enjoy the fruit of your womb. Prayerfully! I truly believe if young couples today prayed more and listened to the false counsel of the ZPG theorists less, the more they would want to have children. Why? Because it is the Father God’s desire and command that they do. Only through prayer and meditation upon God’s Word will our minds and hearts be brought into agreement with the ways of God.
Pray and meditate upon what? The command to multiply which we call the “Cultural Mandate!” All of that recorded “Begetting” in the Bible that we are inclined to skip over! God’s desire for a large family, as He sent His Son to become the firstborn among “Many Brethern!” Seeing in the Bible that fathering and mothering are not simply paternal or maternal, but “Theological!” Being struck by the remarkable fact that God wants to be addressed in prayer not as king, judge, lord, or master, but rather, “Father.” Realizing that if our faith has nothing to say about these things, then our faith has nothing to say about anything. Only then will young marrieds find a supernatural joy in their hearts in the performance of their parental duties. And the more they pray, the more fit and vigorous they will find themselves for parenting. When is the last time you heard things like this amidst the world’s ZPG propaganda?
Then when you are blessed to be able to bring children into the world and to the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s army of witnesses becomes greater and stronger to be able to lead a lost world to salvation through the blood of Jesus. Let our hearts and minds be emboldened to obey the cultural mandate of Genesis 1:28 which is still the fiat of God’s unchanging and certain voice. Otherwise the brute beasts of the field will continue to show themselves wiser and more obedient than man, for they multiply freely as they were intended to do.
