Is America Sick Unto Death?

No one can deny that she is seriously ill! Any nation that kills its young, protects as well as promotes perversion, legalizes and protects hard-core pornographers, hands out birth control to children, bans prayer and God’s laws from its schools, is spiritually and morally on the critically-sick list of dying nations?

Any nation that can look at Lee Harvey Oswald, at James Earl Ray, at the multiple Columbines of America, and at the out-of-control mass murders, and still be filled with fanatical and rabid gun enthusiasts has several moral screws loose or missing.

The only person who would see America as healthy is the person who himself is spiritually and morally diseased and thinks his disease is health, and his abnormality normal. When in fact he and his nation already have the decay of spiritual and moral death working in them and stink to the highest Heaven and to the lowest Hell! 

America’s problem in this regard is that she has spiritually and morally stunk for so long, that she can no longer detect the smell. She has grown immune to her own body odor. I am reminded of the words of  Psalm 115:6,

“…they have  noses but they cannot smell….”

But to those who live in Christ, Who is the Rose of Sharon (Song of Solomon 2:1) America smells like the car whose environment has been fouled by the baby who has just plentifully dirtied his diaper. That odor also seeps into the house every time the TV is turned on. The moment you do, you are met with the stench of  pornographic advertisements and violent movies. Watching TV is no longer a form of recreation you can  enjoy with your tots, let alone with yourself. “Hey, let’s go to the movies” is now an invitation to mental and spiritual self-defilement. I genuinely miss the spiritually and morally pure air of the America I knew as a boy.

To borrow the title of Oz Guiness’ book under a different metaphor, America already is breathing the Dust of Death. And as Matthew Arnold wrote:

“On that hard pagan world disgust and secret loathing fell.

Deep weariness and sated lust made human life a Hell.”

THE MOJAVE CROSS

The United States Supreme Court, in recent decades one of the biggest carriers of a most deadly unspiritual and immoral virus, has agreed to hear the landmark case concerning removing an eight-foot-high cross which stands in the Mojave Desert of all places. The Supreme Court should have thrown the case out immediately and overwhelmingly ruled that the “Mojave Cross” and every cross in America will remain standing where they are, and that they do so protected at the grave risk of severe punishment to those who damage or violate them. Who would have dreamed any or all of this madness when they first raised that Mojave Cross? Only in America and in communist countries!

The eight-foot-high Mojave Cross is a war memorial to World War I veterans and has been in California’s Mojave Desert National Preserve since, mind you, 1934. The cross was originally made out of wood, but changed to a pipe cross in the 1990s for the purpose of avoiding wood rot.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which is a sickening and deadly parasite on this nation, and a former National Park Service employee filed suit nearly eight years ago because the cross stands on federal property. The anti-Christ and hate-God movements in America in this instance were the first-round winners, as the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court ruled the cross unconstitutional and ordered that the cross be taken down. The 1.6 million homeland atheists along with the attorneys of the ACLU in concert  with liberal judges are currently running and ruining America.

The Mojave Cross as of now is covered over with plywood and thereby hidden from public view, pending the Supreme Court’s decision to either have the plywood removed or the cross removed. Not only the Mojave cross, but all of the crosses in Arlington National Cemetery and across America on public property stand on the edge of extinction, as does therefore the very soul of a nation.

The next thing you know a court will rule that the crosses hanging about our necks or pinned to our shirts and blouses while we are in public places are unconstitutional. If the Supreme Court upholds the ACLU as they have in the past and bans the “Mojave Cross,” then in America the last and the most important of Hansel and Gretel’s bread crumbs will be gone and America will never find her spiritual and moral way home again.

The same nation that kissed Mt. Sinai good-bye in a classroom in Kentucky in 1980 is now about to kiss Mt. Calvary good-bye in 2009. I remember when Americans used to kiss their Bibles hello literally each new day!

JUST HOW SICK IS AMERICA?

Notice that I am not asking, “Is America Sick?” Rather I am asking,

“IS AMERICA SICK UNTO DEATH?”

It is a question that deeply affects all of us. Is her sickness terminal? If so, how long does she have? The cross of Jesus Christ stands over the graves of war heroes and private citizens throughout America as the promise of new life, resurrection and eternal life in Jesus Christ. The United States Supreme Court’s decision about the Mohave Cross will be an epoch-making, life or death decision to this nation. Why? Because we can be sure of this:

“ANY PEOPLE OR NATION THAT REPUDIATES THE ONLY MEANS

OF NEW AND   ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST IS ALREADY IN

THE THROES OF ETERNAL DEATH.”

Of course, that is what happens in a country that has little or no concern for Spiritual Security but only for Social Security.

We recall the words of Hebrews 6:6 about the horror of those who put Christ to an open shame. In the light of which we can be sure of this too:

“ANY NATION THAT PUTS CHRIST TO AN OPEN SHAME SHALL

ITSELF  SURELY BE PUT TO AN OPEN SHAME BY CHRIST.”

First it was prayer, then the Ten Commandments, and now the target of Satan in America is the cross. It is Satan’s last stand. The cross is the only power that can fully remove the stench of evil from America, and Satan knows it. He wants to remove the “Mohave Cross” so that this holy Christian symbol will less and less “cross” Americans’ minds.

The forces that are now at work to remove the cross are the same hellions who stand guard before the heart of darkness which is beating in the chest of this nation. And if the cross is taken down, it will lower us into a level of darkness that we have never known before as Americans. It will be the beginning of the end of all religious freedoms as we yet know them.

We had better prayerfully pay close attention to what’s going to happen in the American desert, and deluge the Supreme Court Judges with emails and phone calls. It is unspeakably stupid to try and hide from the enemy as he lobs grenades into our foxholes. There is no place to hide, so we might just as well walk across the battlefield and fight to the death.

I have secretly wished, and now it is no longer a secret, that each person who desecrates the America flag would find big red stripes breaking out all over his body until he admits he was wrong. And the person who opposes and profanes the Christian Cross would find blood dripping from his hands and his feet until he repents and cries out to Christ for forgiveness.That would scare the living gageebies out of both of them. Sometimes people have to be scared straight!

But it should not surprise us at all if the “Mojave Cross” is taken down, for America already embraces sin shamelessly, and therefore would have little or no qualms about shaming the cross of Jesus Christ on which He died for all of those sins.  God says about such a people in Hosea 4:7,

“The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against

Me; I will change their glory into shame.”

Just how sick can a nation become and yet live? The Apostle Paul, talking about the human body and its parts, states in I Corinthians 12:26,

“And if one member suffers, all the members

suffer with it….”

If we use the analogy of the human body for a moment, certain parts of the body can be sick or malfunctioning, and yet our bodies can still live and function though on a limited and albeit sometimes very painful basis. The Body-America of which I am a part is very ill, and this body member is in daily pain by what I see and feel.

But the awful fact is that there comes those times when the sickness becomes so bad, so deep and so widespread that the body is doomed to die. Some diseases can go on for a very long time, as they have in the social, political and judicial bodies of America. But sometime, somewhere known only to God, there is a limit when the body becomes so sick that it is no longer possible for that body to remain alive. It self-destructs!

What happens to human bodies happens as well to bodies of humans called peoples and nations. That happened to Sodom and Gomorrah and hosts of other cities, peoples and nations throughout history. They too self-destructed! They became so sin-sick and the evil in them became so pervasive that it had no good left to feed on. As long as there is good for the evil to attack and live off from, a nation still has a chance of survival. But as Stanley Jones once stated:

“PURE EVIL SELF-DESTRUCTS.”

Or we can put it this way:

“ABSOLUTE SICKNESS MEANS DEATH.”

America is inching closer every day to that state of absolute spiritual and moral evil.The true Christians are keeping the Body-America alive.

Have you ever had a loved one with metastatic cancer as our dear daughter-in-law did some years ago? There comes that time when you meet with the doctor, and in the face of all the declining conditions you ask, “Doctor, be brutally honest with us, what is the prognosis?” And as tactfully as he can, he responds, “Barring a miracle, it is only a question of time.”

All of these things are not only the life and death principles of the human body, but of a sick society as well. If you will:

“A SOCIETY CAN SURVIVE ONLY WHEN THE

PERCENTAGE OF GOODNESS AND

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS GREATER

THAN THE PERCENTAGE

OF BADNESS AND

UNRIGHTEOUS-

NESS.”

But when America rejects the Jesus Christ of the Cross and the Cross of Jesus Christ, she is cutting off the very life and blood-flow of all goodness and righteousness in the body of society. And if she does that, I repeat the doctor’s words, “It is only a question of time.”

CONCLUSION

How do noteworthy others view America? In 1978 before a very learned audience in Harvard Square, Harvard University being the very center of the intelligentsia in America, a very strange looking man made what was viewed by many as a very strange speech. Winner of the “Nobel Prize for Literature,” the exiled Russian author Alexander Solzhenitsyn received a thunderous standing ovation as he had just received the “Honorary Doctor of Letters” from Harvard University.

When the audience sat down, Alexander came to the microphone, and like a prophet out of the Old Testament with his flashing eyes, his flailing arms, and what to many was an overgrown beard, he delivered his soul. He soon went on to give a stinging rebuke to America’s loss of will and courage particularly among the ruling groups and the intellectually elite. And where would you find more of them than at Harvard?

He asked whether we present America as a model to the world, especially to his own ex-land of Russia?” “No,” he said, “we cannot because America is in a state of exhaustion and sickness, and it does not look very attractive.” He went on to say, “After all of the decades of violence, suffering and oppression, the human spirit longs for something higher and purer than America has to offer.”

He went to describe America’s materialism, her mass living habits, her revolting invasion of privacy by TV stupor and intolerable music. He then said, “No weapons can help America until we overcome the loss of will power. And how did America become so sick? How did America decline from her triumphal march to her present sickness?” Then speaking as one of us he went on to explain:

“WE HAVE LOOSED OURSELVES FROM THE MORAL HERITAGE OF

CHRISTIAN CENTURIES. WE ONCE BEGAN WITH THE IDEA

THAT INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS WERE GRANTED

BECAUSE MAN IS GOD’S CREATURE AND

GOD GAVE THEM TO MAN

CONDITIONALLY ON THE

BASIS OF CHRISTIAN

RESPONSIBILITY.”

He then went on to say:

“WE HAVE TURNED OUR BACKS ON THE CHRISTIAN SPIRIT, AND

EMBRACED ALL THAT  IS MATERIAL WITH EXCESSIVE ZEAL.

WE MAY BE SPARED WAR BUT WE  FACE AN EVEN WORSE

CALAMITY – A DESPIRITUALIZED AND

MATERIALIZED HUMANISTIC

CONSCIOUSNESS.”

How this modern day prophet’s critics bristled in that audience? But  be assured that the loosing of America from the moral heritage and spirit of Christian centuries will be complete when the Cross of Christ is taken down and away from America’s already despiritualized consciousness. Truly then her spiritual and moral illness will quickly become terminal, and her sure demise will be just a matter of time.
