WHICH THE PASTOR SHOWS INDIFFERENCE"  Well folks, here we go again, or is it yet? The run for the White House is in full gear, and the sprint to the front door is not far away. November 4 will open that door for the next President of the United States of America. More is at stake than we can ever imagine. Totally conflicting world and life views are running neck and neck as I write this piece. The differences between the major political parties and their nominees are stark.

"THE PROUD AND POWER-HUNGRY POLITICIAN CANNOT ALLOW A SENSE
OF DEPENDENCE UPON OR GRATITUDE TO GOD, FOR THAT ONLY
CONJURES UP PALE, MEAGER AND WEAK IMAGES OF HIMSELF."
 No, that's not my house. My childhood house was a bit smaller. But a house does not make a home. I had a wonderful father named William (Bill). Dad and Mom (Helene) made our house a home.
Dad was a most loving husband and father as well a most giving man. He was a specialty-school trained watch repairman. But above all he loved Jesus with all of his heart and witnessed to his customers regularly about their need of Christ as their Savior. They told me so at the funeral home when my dad’s body lay in repose. I was so proud in the midst of my tears. A better man and dad a son could never wish for. |

 Fourth,you do n’t think do you that we in America could ever come to the time when Hugh Hefner would be the president and Larry Flynt would be the vice-president? Not so many years ago I would have never even dreamed of asking such an off-the-wall question, but now I am no longer sure that it is off the wall. If it is, it just fell on the table.  “Far fetched,” you say! “Not anymore,” I say. For some time now we have had two openly gay members in the U.S. House of Representat ives. They were elected by the voters in their states who knew full well that their candidates were gay and proud members of the homosexual and lesbian communities. They are both Democrats, namely Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin. As to the states that voted them in, surprise, surprise! |

I wonder these days what the 4th of July means to the average American. For many it for  sure is a welcomed holiday from work, and a wonderful excuse to pig out at picnics and watch fireworks with the kids at night. All good clean American stuff.
But that is not the true and glorious celebration of the 4th of July. The 4th of July, if it is anything meaningful, is a festival of freedom and a celebration of national identity. It marks that time in blood when “One Nation Under God” threw off the yoke of religious bondage and embarked on the perilous pilgrimage of religious freedom. The 4th of July marks an adventure in faith, and not just a mere gesture of rebellion. The new nation then raised as its standard not just a flag, but the Declaration of Independence which is rooted in Scripture. |
